As of last year, 15% of pupils in England were identified as having special educational needs (SEN)- that is, more than 1.3 million children require extra support in their learning.
It has come to light that of these 1.3 million, 1.1 million are educated in mainstream schools, as opposed to special needs schools, and therefore, are not getting the right support they need to thrive in their education.
A study by The Key, which support school leaders in all aspects of managing a school, has found that 82% of mainstream schools in England do not have sufficient funding to effectively provide for their SEN pupils. Furthermore, 88% of school leaders believe that teacher training at the initial stages does not sufficiently prepare teachers to support students with SEN.
With this in mind, it is now paramount that more teachers take the necessary steps to ensure they can support these students in the best possible way.
All teachers can benefit from attending our Ultimate SEN Day courses taking place in Cardiff and London this June, with award winning trainer Nina Jackson.
Understanding different types of Special Educational can be both challenging and time consuming. Getting the teaching, learning and support is crucial. These will include pupils with autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysphasia, ADHD/ADD and emotional, social and behavioural needs. The course is suitable for all teachers, whether you are newly qualified, experienced or support staff.
The course aims to do the following:
